hi, just a question about your rig on macro photos, if you don't mind - I have a s200exr(fuji) and a dcr250 raynox - my question is about flash- do you use a bracket or handheld with a cord? - I have a ef-20 flash that I use in my x100 and it's compatible to s200exr as well.

Hi, I usually have my camera set up on a tripod and then handhold the flash. I find this gives me more control. I also use a wireless trigger.

Hi Jack, your work is truly amazing! I was just wondering though if I could take cool macros with a telescopic lens? As that was a lens I was considering on buying, or do I need a proper macro lens? Thanks for your help.

Hi Rae. Thanks very much. A tele lens will work just fine, It’s what I use. I don’t own a proper macro lens. I use a macro filter called a Raynox 250 (they are around £40) and it turns any lens into a macro lens. I use it on a 200mm lens. Or I use extension tubes (cost me around £5) which allow you to focus super close. I hope this helps. If you need anything else please let me know. Jack.

Hi, Jack. I've seen your photos in Amateur Photographer Magazine. They are all amazing and beautiful. I hope you won't mind me asking, do you crop your macro photos? (That's the closest thing I have done for 'macro'.) I'm planning to buy a Raynox DCR-250 as a Christmas present for myself and I would like to follow your footsteps in macro photography. Your advice will surely help. Many thanks in advance. - Albert

Many thanks for your kind comments, I really appreciate it. I do crop my photos but only to improve the composition, not to magnify further. Most of my macro’s are straight from the camera. I use a Fuji s200exr which has quite a long zoom so that really helps. The Raynox 250 is a superb piece of kit and is relatively cheap if your looking at taking macro photos. If you need anything else please don’t hesitate to ask.
